So let’s be completely honest here finding time to squeeze in a date night is never easy. Throw in a pandemic and a couple months of quarantine and it can feel down right impossible. My husband and I have been finding creative ways to spend some kid free time together.
Game nights have become one of my favorite ways to unwind with my hubby. Once a week, after the kiddos go to bed, it’s GAME TIME!! We open a bottle of wine, grab a “midnight” snack – or in our situation – a 9:00 pm snack (LOL) and try not to let our competitive sides get the best of us.
We’ve gotten hooked on this game Mind the Gap – it’s a coming-of-age trivia game that divides up trivia questions by Generation! The goal is to make your way around the board first by answering questions about popular TV shows, movies, music, slang, and news-worthy events. Paul and I are HUGE trivia buffs and it is amazing JUST how much we know from other generations, but no one can deny HOW fast we can answer our own Generation’s questions.
The instructions encourage you to invite the entire family and team up with players from other generations. We cannot wait to host the next family game night and see who’s team can dominate Mind the Gap. If being quarantined has taught us anything, it’s how important spending quality time with loved ones truly is. AND it honestly does not take much to have a good time and create fun memories with the entire family!
For me, it has felt like years since I have actually sat down and played out an entire board game. Feeling the cards in my hands and the rush of excitement when I get a question right is something I did not know I needed until we started our game nights. It has made me reflect on how I’ve been spending my time these past few years. This is a big bonus that has come out of quarantine for not only me, but my relationship and my family too!
I hope you can find some time to feel like a kid again and play some board games this Summer!
